Make Your Site Stand Out!
Wait What's That?
Been surfing for a while and seen some odd things?
Chances are if you use Internet Explorer 5.0 (or higher) or Linux's Konqueror as your browser every once in a while when you visit a site you'll notice the little icon in the browser bar changes from the default IE symbol to something else.
**That's Great! I Want One!**
The little symbol is called a "favicon" (short for favorites icon) and we'll show you just how easy it is to create one of these little favicons to set your site apart.
If you don't know what I'm talking about and are using one of the above browsers
look at your location bar. See the little guy on the surfboard? (Just before the
http://www.surf22.com).
(Hint: He looks like this: )
If not, try book marking the page:
IE
5+ users Click Here To Bookmark This Page
and you'll see it appear
in your bookmark list, all your other bookmarks will have the standard IE symbol while ours has the neat little guy on the surfboard.
That's a Favicon!
This is an excellent way to make your site stand out, especially in a long line of bookmarks!
Even if you don't use a "Favicon Aware" browser, 70-75% of your visitors are so it is worth creating!
How hard is it?
As hard as going to www.favicon.com and creating it for free using their
software in just a few minutes!
You can download their software, a fully functional 5.5 MB trial version to create your own or you can create one right online using their new Java applet.
Using the online applet you can paint your own but if you download the software you can create much more intricate favicons by importing images.
Personally I used the downloaded software to create the one here at www.Surf22.com and
over at www.MarketingInsiders.com. I just used our logos and resized them. Once I figured out how to get started it was a five minute procedure.
You can get full details on their site: www.favicon.com. Have some fun for a change!
Happy Marketing!
